Among the many formats proposed, the “scientific colonies” offer practical training complementary to school and an unforgettable holiday at the same time. However, their format and mode of functioning can also provide much more : passion, motivation, creation, innovation and tolerance (of yourself or ideas) are an integral part of the role of science camps.

In effect, with the camps of one week, two weeks, or one month in duration, the participants have ample time to discover, learn, develop deep understanding, and innovate. Some may discover a passion and profession, others will find that science “is not that difficult” and that scientists are normal people. Some may become scientists, engineers, researchers, and some may orient themselves to other fields, but beyond the knowledge, they have gained a critical spirit, open, a « scientific spirit » essential to the modern world and which gives these future notaries, bankers, lawyers, executives, policymakers, and workers the power of reflection and decision.

The internship vacations are also a privileged social step in the development in a child and adolescent, it is often the first life experience outside of the family and the occasion to open themselves to the diversity of the world and forge new social bonds.

Moreover, with one educator for each 5 students (instead of the 1 teacher for 12 students as recommended by Youth & Sports) we can assure not only a quality that is difficult to match, but also above all security in every aspect.

The Base Camp is organized in a comfortable “hard” building while each team can go on a scientific expedition for several days at sea, at the foot of volcanoes, in the heart of the forest ... according to the destination chosen.

Our Centres are occupied by the association throughout the year. Therefore the children will not find themselves in a school rented for the summer, but a real Centre for Scientific Living with all the material, equipment, and supervisors of their dreams.

 When

Camps are offered every year during the short school vacations and in July and August. The children are placed in groups according to their age. Thus, young ones 7 to 9 and 10 to 12 years participate in visits lasting from 1 week to 1 month, while the older kids age 13 to 15 and 16 to 18 carry out projects lasting at least 2 weeks (the most passionate campers stay a full month, sometimes two).

 - Subscribing Organizations (Minister of Youth and Sports, of Education, of Research, UNESCO…) have asked us to organize vacation camps in response to the current needs of society.

 Science educators. Very versatile, they assure at the same time the daily life of their students, the overall educational approach, and are able to articulate activities around the scientific information provided by experts (independent experts or specialists from French research centres).

 The participants. Each year, we give more autonomy and responsibility to the students according to the model of the cooperative colony where, for example, the rules of life are fixed by the participants themselves (with the supervision of the educators !). The bi-weekly or even daily meeting of the “student council”, the general meeting of participants from the same camp or the same age group, also allows everyone to express their ideas.

 The parents have access before and after the camps, when they bring their child to the camp and then when they come to pick them up and attend the end of camp exhibition or conference. These pivotal moments of the vacations are the occasion to communicate what has been done, and for the kids, to show the results of their scientific experiments.

 Each of the two teaching teams (older and younger children) are supervised by a Daily Life Manager while the team of the same activity program is overseen by a Program Manager. The two are under the responsibility of the Centre Director, with whom you are in a contractual relation. Each scientific program (SPIP SPIP SPIP est le CMS (Système de Gestion et de Publication de Contenus sur Internet) que l’association Objectif Sciences International a choisi pour développer ses outils en informatique logistique mis au service des recherches scientifiques menées sur ses différents Centres de Séjours Scientifiques. , PARADISAEA, BOREALIS, RAHUI...) is permanently attended by the association’s common Resource Centre members who assure the consistency and progress of each camp project with a general overview of all the proposed scientific activities. These individuals assure the quality of the projects which your children want to participate in and the positive development of their vacations.

 For reasons of security, and by habit, each new season we notify the police, fire department, the Minister of Youth and Sports, as well as veterinarians and the social services of the region. All these people, aware of our presence in their service areas, are available for our smallest needs.

 Local decision makers, journalists, suppliers, and other occasional or lasting partners are important links from the camp to the outside. They are therefore in contact with us when they want to write articles, bring their peers to exhibitions organized by the participants, etc. Additionally, the Objective Science International camps believe in local development on scientific, cultural, economic, and touristic levels. As an example, a large part of the fresh produce served in meals at the Centre for Scientific Living comes from the local region.
