Our theme : wild animals in the city

Did you know that London is full of wildlife ? Deer, foxes and other parakeets live freely in the parks. SSometimes they even venture into the city center.

This trip focuses on foxes : the number has doubled in 20 years, and some are so used to humans that they come into houses ! They make their dens in holes, pipes or under boards, and feed on small wild animals and food waste. In most neighbourhoods you can easily spot them at dusk. Locals are divided about them : some find it nice to see a wild animal, others think they would be better off in nature, others are afraid of diseases, others don't like that foxes are dispersing the rubbish bins.

How to conduct the investigation

You will investigate the relationships between humans and foxes and use the methods of social sciences and journalism : interview experts, search for documentation, survey users, analyze statistics, etc. Depending on the week, you will speak with the managers of a shelter for injured animals, environmental associations, lawyers specializing in the rights of nature, city services, etc. And of course, we will go and observe the foxes firsthand ! You will carry out your investigation on the field, and you will choose yourself the way to carry out your results : awareness video, information panel, contradictory debate, press article, etc.

A new type of linguistic camp

Classic linguistic stays usually alternate English lessons and tourist visits. Objectif Sciences International offers you a completely different concept : no courses, but continuous immersion. Participants learn through direct and concrete practice by working on the fox project.

You will practice English throughout the day, through interactions with educators, fun challenges, small vocabulary games, English documentation, etc. Of course, our educators will adapt to each person's level and help you progress according to your personal needs.

What you will learn

You will discover several notions on the field : ecosystem, interaction, scale of analysis, order of magnitude... You will also become familiar with environmental issues in mega-cities.

In addition, you will practice various essential skills : interviewing strangers will help you overcome your shyness, practicing English on a daily basis will make you progress significantly, interviewing experts will train you to actively listen to an interlocutor, preparing the return of your stay will teach you how to organize your ideas.

We will be staying at Abercorn Hostel, a nice youth hostel in Hammersmith. You will spend a wonderful week in London, discovering British culture, visiting the most famous monuments, trying a real English breakfast, traveling on the famous red buses…

Jurassic Base Camp

This scientific expedition will take place in the south of England, in Dorset. The extremely fossil-rich sites will bring immense joy to the participants !
You will be immersed in the heart of one of Europe's most fossil-rich regions for large dinosaurs ! So, join us in the upcoming session to attempt to discover the extraordinary biodiversity that inhabited the English shores during the Jurassic and Cretaceous periods !

This nature-filled expedition combines on-field and on-camp laboratory activities to create a true immersive vacation ! The curious will be delighted, the shy will find equally passionate friends, and specialists can use their knowledge to solve real scientific mysteries.

Lasting either one week or fifteen days, in both cases, the program is tailored to the wildest desires and is suitable for youths aged 13 and above ! Families with children aged 7 and above can also join, while the solo adventure is available for those aged 13 and above.

For both girls and boys, come discover the joys of the Expedition !

The stay includes indoor activities in museums with scientific educators and their custodians, as well as outdoor excursions to fossil sites, mostly located along the coasts of the Dorset region. Always with the same team of educators specialized in the field, this expedition will allow everyone to step into the shoes of the paleontologist they dream of becoming.

Cetaceans -Regular Rare New Observations !

The monitoring program of cetacean populations in South Biscay, OSI-CETIS was able to implement several consecutive « Biscay » trips from mid-April to mid-May, with a « family » trip during school vacations, a training course in cetacean identification and a trip with a middle school class from Chantilly. These months of April and May have the particularity of corresponding to the calving and mating of one species, the short-finned pilot whale Dolphin
Whale Dolphins, whales, plankton... discover the wealth of our oceans by attending one of our nature courses on dolphins and whales. (Globicephala melas). Several rare observations were made and show the importance of this increased and continuous observation effort.

The contribution in knowledge of these observations shows the importance of participative sciences and the repetitiveness of the stays.

The south of the Bay of Biscay is an area rich in cetaceans. During 600 years, whalers and all of Europe knew of this resource, exploited to manufacture, among other things, oil for lighting. Since the abandonment of this hunt, most people have become unaware of the biodiversity present in this area, linked to submarine canyons, in particular the Capbreton canyon, which extends from the coast and into the west for several hundred kilometers.

Some of them are very little known, due to lack of studies and monitoring.

Newborns have been encountered, recognizable by the fetal folds on their bodies. These encounters are good news and are also a proof that births of this specie in this geographic area, take place in April-May, while some authors still mention births in August. The health status of this species, in the Atlantic, is undetermined, because of a lack of sufficient data.

One of these newborn pilot whales was seen in mid-May, among a group of another species. Although cases of adoption between different species are known in terrestrial and marine mammals Marine Mammals Observe marine mammals in the Iroise Sea in Brittany. Watch them develop in their natural habitat. You can do this on ourplakton discovery sailing expeditions. , they are very rare ; an analysis of the photos taken during the stays remains to be done in order to try to find traces of the « adoptive » female Bottlenose dolphin (Tursiops troncatus). Adoptions can be temporary if the mother or the group of origin is found but they can become permanent if the mother is never encountered.

It is interesting to note that several expert observers were on board that day. One saw the newborn but has no pictures. Another did not see or take a picture. A third did not see it but discovered its presence on a photograph. This shows the importance of photography as a scientific tool for monitoring marine megafauna, the importance of training and the importance of being as numerous as possible.

Another surprising encounter that animated the training session this time : a blue and white dolphin (Stenella coeruleoalba) almost entirely depigmented. This individual had been seen in August 2021. Indeed, the analysis of the dorsal fin allowed to conclude that it is the same individual which was observed in 2021 and in 2022.

The 2022 observation allowed the identification of the species with certainty, contrary to that of 2021. No case of leucism (absence of coloration but normal pigmentation of the eyes unlike albinos) has been found in the literature for this species ; a few cases are listed in other species, mainly in the northern hemisphere. This anomaly can be explained by different hypotheses documented in some species such as pollution in birds, a decrease in habitat quality in geese and food in voles. However, in cetaceans, the lack of knowledge on the origins of this phenomenon does not allow us to make any hypothesis.

Finally, in the last outing and we had a last notable observation : a young dolphin of the species Stenella coeruleoalba, seen swimming by himself. Here again, the photo taken, after the fact, allowed us to put forward a hypothesis to this unusual behavior of isolation, in appearance. We can see on it that the body of the animal presents numerous pathological necroses. In nature, a sick animal often moves away from its group. It would have been necessary to carry out an acoustic listening to try and detect the presence of the group maybe swimming several nautical miles from this isolated individual.

We are often asked "what can we do to better protect this wildlife ? One answer is to participate in the monitoring organized through the stays and develop observation and photography skills. Come and help our expertss while having fun and discovering the area during the summer and fall. Each season is special. July is the month of the beaked whales in the Basque Country, another species for which the lack of knowledge does not allow to take action on its conservation. The distribution of cetaceans around Brittany has been changing in recent years, which needs to be documented in order to understand its origin. Autumn is a very little explored season !

Open to children as young as 7 years old and for the whole family, the Ski and Snow Crystals trip offers a unique alternative to the classic winter vacation activities!

Young and old alike will have a blast in the snow, whether it's sliding down the slopes or building the biggest igloo ever. Those who have never skied before or who want to improve their skills, especially the little ones, will have the opportunity to take lessons with the Swiss Ski School as part of the stay.

Otherwise, exploration of the mountain in search of wildlife tracks, or the discovery of the innumerable structures that snowflakes can take and the why and how of their formation (otherwise known as nivology, the science Science La science est désormais l'affaire de tous. The “Drones Connection” stays available throughout the year to allow children as young as 7 years old to participate in scientific research Scientific Research Participate in scientific research research programs. For a few years now, scientists have had access to a whole range of new tools to meet their needs: drones. Whether they are flying, rolling, underwater or else, these robots allow the observation of wild animals in their natural environment, without disturbing them. A study published in February 2015 in the scientific journal Biology Letters, showed that birds were not afraid by flying drones regardless of their color and speed.

This is why Objectif Sciences International offers several stays each year dedicated to these more or less autonomous robots, aimed at a very wide audience. It should not be believed that, because robotics is involved, this type of stay is too complicated for children or people without knowledge of mechanics, programming, etc. On the contrary, and with proof, several “Drone Connection” camps have welcomed girls and boys from the age of seven this summer.

These children aged seven to nine were thus able to learn how to fly drones of course, but also participated in the reflection, design and life-size tests of drones meeting the needs of other projects such as the study of bears, lynxes and wolves, or the exploration of disused mines, volcanoes or glaciers.

During the All Saints holidays, new “Drone Connection” stays will allow new recruits to resume and continue the research work started by the young scientists this summer!

The NGO Objectif Sciences International organizes and contributes to scientific vacations stays since it was created in 1992, over 30 years of experience in 2022, and, all of this without one single accident or incident having to be deplored. After the basic but fundamental question of security and serenity during the time of the stay, comes next the questions on behaviours, and then comes the ones on the pedagogical quality, the quality of the contents and of the supervisors, the quality of group cohesion, and more... a list as long as the job of a Scientific Instructor at OSI is engaging and rich in experiences!

So concretely, what is it?

Let's go from exemple to exemple :

In animation and education courses accross the world, it is explained to new instructors, that they should not offer « pearls activites », saying they are as futile as making pasta necklaces. Yet, when in 2005 the Inspection from the Youth & Sport office (La Jeunesse et les Sports in France) et came to visit one of our Scientific Camp Center to see how we are working, they were pleasently suprised by all the fantastic pearl art that was made by the children, following the ancestral way of the Millefiori technique.

This famous inspection of the Youth and Sports office is automatic and systematic in any country where the stays of minors are subject to a legislative supervision, and this is very good. Even if some organizers fear the arrival of this inspection, it is the part of the general culture of the NGO OSI to consider that a new stay that is yet to have had it's inspection is not granted the status of stay. Moreover, all our scientific educators are informed as soon as they join the team that we consider that Youth and Sports inspections are always welcome, both during the day and at night, and when possible, without having been informed beforehand (surprise inspection).

We consider ourselves to be in a natural partnership with the Youth & Sport Office, which we integrate as one of our prescribers. Their organization has expectations regarding the stays of minors, and we make it a point of honor, not only to meet these expectations, but also to be a force of proposals. Today, the former partners of Georges CHARPACK or Pierre-Gilles de GENNES, come to see us at the UN, every year at the GENEVA FORUM organized by OSI in December, to contribute to our work. And in December 2016, precisely... it is an Inspector of Youth & Sports who did actually come to attend a presentation given by 7 of our young participants (aged 11 to 17!) as part of the 5^th Annual International Conference on the Rights of Nature for Peace and Development, still organized by OSI at the UN, as part of the GENEVA FORUM. This is a good example of the bridges, much stronger than simple footbridges, that our teammates work on every year, and on a daily basis, to build between the NGO and the major Institutions.

For adults, as well as family groups, what about travel agencies, world discovery trips, scientific excursions? What is the difference between a hike in the mountains with a guide who talks about the snow leopard, and our participatory research trips on the territory of the leopard and where, systematically, our participants collect footprints, signs of presence, droppings and photos of panthers, and produce results of genetic analysis of the populations of leopards in presence? What is the difference between a sailing course where the instructor will show dolphins swimming a few yards away, and a participatory science Science La science est désormais l'affaire de tous. Whale Dolphins, whales, plankton... discover the wealth of our oceans by attending one of our nature courses on dolphins and whales. is recognized by its fins and identified by its first name, participants who, at the end of the year, will communicate their results to the UN? How can these differences be evaluated and explained? Can the famous NGO Scientific Holidays offer its know-how and proposals to the travel organization community? Yes, and this is why OSI organizes every year at the UN the Annual International Conference on Responsible Travel and Tourism for Peace and Sustainable Development, where actors from the tourism, education and scientific travel sectors meet to allow a transfer of practices within the community of professionals concerned.

Of course, it doesn't end there. Or it doesn't start there. Every year, the local OSI groups perform thousands of daily tasks that makes a difference: relations with the local policeforce, the firemen, the neighboring farmers, with each family of the registered participants, with the transporters, the cooks... Beyond these tasks, we find of course the training and preparation of our teammates, which will allow the registered children, teenagers and adults to leave with real results to their assets, but we might also find YOUR presence at all the stages of consultation in the year, within the very organization of the association. Indeed, it is possible for you, and this is a rare commodity, to be present at all stages of pedagogical preparations during the year. Even the national and international General Assemblies of the NGO are fully public! And to our knowledge, we are still the only organization to practice such transparency.

Great Discounts

If you are taxable, you can benefit from 50% to 80% of deductions on your taxes depending on your personal situation and your country of financial residency. This means a sign up worth 1000 euros or 1000 US dollars will end up only costing 500 euros or US dollar, on average.
The social mandate of our NGO is either to put children at contact with Science for longer periods of time or to give access to contact with Science to more children, and we try to facilitate those dispositions. This means that you could double the duration of a stay for your child without additional cost, or that you could sign up two kids instead of one, thanks for contacting us to get more information.

If you are NOT taxable you can pay for a part or for the whole of the trip by working ''in-kind''. As an example, if you happen to be a farmer or a market gardener, you could pay for a part of the stay by providing us with fruits or vegetables.
By the way, there is a wide variety of possibilities to do some work in-kind. It is the Director of your chosen Stay Center (see Contacts) who has the clearance to see with you the ways or services that you could provide. Alimentary Goods, volunteer work, scientific equipment, technical books... possibilities are many ! This way, you can finance the Science Trip of your kid in a original and truly concrete manner, taking part in the associative life of Objectif Sciences International. In the end, a lot of people were able to send their kids to a Science Camp with very little monetary expenses.

What is included with the stays prices

The price includes the supervision of the stay by our Scientific Instructors with 1 adult minimum for every 6 participants, the housing and food, as well as all the logistical, administrative and security related necessities needed for the organization of a quality vacation stay.
This includes heavy scientific, pedagogical and planning work that take places during the entire year from our different teams of sometime 50 people per Science Camp Center as well as many different members and contributors of Objectif Science International.

2) Becoming a Scientific Instructor yourself: you have dreamed of, or carried out a project that you are proud of while participating in a Science Camp!?
It is your turn now to help the new generations of kids to carry out projects that
willput stars in their eyes!
You can now become a Scientific Instructor and become a part of the Objectif Science International Team. It all starts with passing the aptitude training course for the functions of Youth & Sports Instructor, and then you will be accompagnied by one of our center's director trough your proffessional integration: formatory internships, training internships, pedagogical and scientific training.
If you are 16 years old, you will be ''Instructor Aid'', and starting from the age of 17 years old you can pass the Youth & Sport certificate and become a full-on Scientific Instructor.
You wil begin with doing animation work with younger kids with the help of a senor worker of the organization, and at the contact of your team you will get better and better everyday and unluck new skills!
If you want to take part in becoming a Scientific Instructor, send your application to your Science Camps Science Camps Our science camps are vacation camps where your children will discover a scientific domain which speaks to them: astronomy, archaeology, marine ecology... You can decide to go even further with it by participating each year to our Rencontres de l'Excellence (Excellence meetings) organized by the NGO Objectif Science International. Our organization has decided to launch these meetings after seeing the level of seriousness, motivation and quality of the participants of Science Camps brought into achieving their projects.
The first Rencontres de l'Excellence took place in fall 2010 at our European Science Camp Center in France (Auvergne) and brought together young people from all the different countries where we the NGO is active. Camps Prices : Objectif Sciences International is a non-profit NGO, who is of an educative and scientific Nature , contributing to the protection of the natural environement . In acccordance with that, a significant part of the camp's expenses is deducted from taxes (law concerning the donations to General Interest Organizations). This applies to all countries!

Created in 1992 by passionate individuals, Objectif Sciences International (O.S.I.) is a non-profit NGO, which was quickly recognized as one of general interest.
The commited and formative nature of our science camps offered for children, teenagers, family and adults makes of Objectif Sciences International an organizer and promoter of Solidarity Science and Participatory Reasearch Camps, one of our feature being able welcome participants from all age groups while complying to the top standards of quality.

This is why OSI has been officialy recognized as a International NGO, and has been given the Special Consultative Status to the United Nations (ECOSOC).

These Solidarity and Participatory Science camps [1], offered during the Science Camps season, ask for a high mobilization of our teams at all the different levels (Scientific Instructors, Pedagogic and Scientific managers , advisers, engineering, design time and the constant updates of our actions) which allows us to bring our projects to the highest level of pedagogic and scientific content, aswell as on the behavioral plan (peace education, non violant education, social ecology, cooperation...).

And all of that activity only in the most exceptional of destinations, close to you or far away, often surrounded by nothing but the one and only mother Nature.

This neccessitate a fair calcul of our costs. When calculating the costs of each camp, the NGO headquarters look after giving all the necessary means to every sollicited contributor, while never going over the neccesary purse, enabling us to offer camps with cost of participation staying at a fair and reasonable price .

Nevertheless, we offer camps of the highest logistic, pedagogic, scientific and environemental quality , in a way that is easily accessible to all and everyone, wich is why it is necessary for us to keep our teams budgets at a certain price point to ensure we always maintain the quality of our stays.

If we can offer our camps at a rate that is lower than, per say, a horse riding or a motorcycle camp, it is thanks to you all ; as the numbers of participants who come back every year is getting bigger and bigger, we are able year by year to become less and less expensive!

The range of price is subject to the different dates , the destinations, but also on yearly opportunities. As of now, we have not been able to make an ergonomic tab of all the dates and prices wich is user-friendly, even for beginner, and one might miss on an opportunity that corresponds to them. That is why we keep contact by phone as our main mean of interraction, as we can precisely inform you about all the planned camps for the next 24 months to come.

Benefit Tax Deductions:

As our stays fall under the solidarity leave category, and as every donations benefiting a recognized General Interest Organization, expenses coming from the stay aswell as transportation costs can be deducted from your taxes !
This will depend on the usual scale of your country of residency - in every country !

As an example, in France, the deduction is equal to 66% of the amount of the donation, corresponding to a maximum of 20% of taxable income. When the amount is superior than 20% of the taxable income, the excess may be carried forward for 5 years. A two week stay with a price of 2450€ comes down to 817€ after tax deductions ! Premium quality accesible to all and everyone !

Accessible to all : even if you are not taxable, you come under another help scheme = Contact us !

In Switzerland, the amount is deductible on the Net taxable revenue, meaning on the taxable revenue minus all the other deductible expenses (proffesionnal expenses, alimony...). Depending on the canton, the amount is, or is not capped. In Geneva, for example, if you pay 19% of taxes, the amount corresponding to your tax deduction will be of 19% .

In Belgium, in Spain,in the United States of America, etc, tax deductions calculus may differ, but its will always be in your advantage.

These advantageous conditions enable an easier access to our high quality stays aswell as being rewarding to your charitable actions.

If you are planning to organize a solidarity science trip that is even more ambitious, we are also able to help finance your departure.

To our knowledge, our NGO is also the only one that still offers for participants to pay in a material or services form. It is worth mentionning because every year, dozens of young girls and boys, as well as teenagers and adult go on scientific trips by these means.

Moreover, Objectif Science International has created a social fund named GAIA (Gaia being the name generaly accepted by the scientific community when reffering to the earth as one own entity) allowing people with low income to still participate in our Science Camps. The fund adapts to all types of revenues, so no one is left behind!

Subscriptions :You are passionate about one of the camps from our catalogue but it is not planned for the dates you wanted? Maybe other people are in the same situations; in that case, if at least 15 people are interested we can open a new camp for these new specific dates, so contact us!

The ONG Objectif Sciences International uses an online booking tool.
It is only available in English and French.

After our Phone Call you will be able to :

You will have the choice to :

directly use the onlîne booking tool in English or in French (online booking system)
or ask your phone adviser to make the booking for you, simplifying the process and making sure the right booking was made.

If you want to do the booking yourself, please contact us by phone so we can verify all the details before (accompanied trips, cancellation insurance...). We will send you an email that will provide you with a direct link to the corresponding science camp.
If you want to do the booking with one of our representative, here again, contact us by phone, and we will do the booking for you.

When the order for a camp is confirmed, the spots are reserved for you and/or your children, on the camps tha you choosed, awell as for eventual accompanied transport or cancelation insurance,
The preffered payment method is bank wires. You will receive our banking coordinates once you have completed your order. Payment using bank card is also an available option.
Once you have proceeded with your order, you will get a confimration email, followed by a contact form to be completed at home about you and/or your children's, it will contains all the necessary information that we need prior to the camps (Surname, Name, postal adresse, favourite kind of activite, health informations)
