Introduction

Come and discover the world of drones with nature as our learning ground. Draw and design your own drone and use it to observe nature from a different angle.

The stay

If you love to tinker with objects and if you always have your head in the clouds, then come and join us for Adventure Drone Connection. You will be able to design and pilot your own machine. Supported by professionals in the drone field and older friends, you will be able to create a unique machine with your own hands and personalize it to your taste.

You will first learn to pilot flying drones and ground drones on a simulator or on small machines. It will then be your mission to put your newfound talents into the service of good animal causes. Afterwards, you will be able to join one of the groups whose job it is to create machines that will take part in the OSI expeditions of observing snow leopards, bears or even wolves. You will also be able to participate in missions out in the wilderness where it will be necessary to transport drones and use them to observe animals in their natural habitat. All the while, there will be opportunities to participate in numerous activities, such as evening gatherings around a fire that will give you the chance to make new friends.

OUR PARTNERS

PARTENAIRE

INTERDRONES SERVICES is a company specializing in the construction and use of multiplatform drones. The company uses flying drones as well as land, surface and underwater drones. Founded by a firefighter in 2013, this company has the goal of intertwining drone technology with the emergency services.

The research project

In the air, on land, in or under water, drones are everywhere. Parrot and Hubsan drones are becoming more and more common. We invite you to come discover this world and to participate in it. You will be part of a design team that will be tasked with designing drones with multiple rotors, drones with flight capabilities or 4x4. Your task will include designing, constructing and testing out the drones. Not only that, however...

Your mission is to become an aeronautical engineer in the service of Mother Nature. With the help of your drone you will be charged with finding the best ways to approach the animals discretely, film them, and share your images. It may be necessary to modify your drone so that it can camouflage with the surrounding environment or at least be less discernible by the animals. There is also the obstacle of learning how to approach the animals without scaring them off.

The end of this trip will not signal the end of your drone adventure, far from it!
You will get a chance to explain to your parents and other participants of the camp the results of your discovery. They will be able to benefit from the results of your adventure and give you the chance to improve your drone until it becomes efficient enough to be able to observe the great animals during OSI expeditions. You will be able to follow the drone’s exploits on the internet and say: “I helped build that drone!”

The location

Musiflore Centre, which welcomes the drone connection camps, is located in Crupies, in the heart of the Provence Prealps. Nestled in the heart of land preserved by 49 ha of mountains, grassland and forests, this center will allow you to spend your visit in full contact with nature.

You will stay in rooms nicely furnished with beds for two to six people, in a building that has been completely renovated. For your enjoyment, there are a number of rooms designed for group activities and an amphitheater which allows us to host not only parties and screenings organized by participants, but also the passing of the torch to new groups of participants.

The sunny weather that graces this region is ideal for our aeronautical activities. This area is also known for its streams to discover, wilderness to explore, forests to climb and an abundance of diverse and distinct habitats to encounter. These traits make this place an ideal location to undertake our experiments and to test our tools.

The region of Bourdeaux is known for Saoû Forest, which is the most unique forest in the entire department! However, it’s also a land of contrasts and light; arid, gravelly soil; marl; undergrowth; and scrublands of thyme and lavender. It’s a little corner of paradise in the Prealps of Drôme between Vercors Massif and Provence.

The village of Crupies is a small commune characterized by its lack of village center, but it is well known for its Musiflore Centre and for its Saint Jean Chapel (11th century). From the top of its hill, the chapel stands watch over the river Roubion gleaming in the sun.

Day to day proceedings

As soon as you arrive, you will be immersed in the world of drones and given a presentation of previous OSI machines. Then, it will be time to choose your team and project.

With the help of drone professionals and older participants, you will begin to conceive of the form and purpose of your machine. During the first week, you will have all the necessary materials and tools at your disposal in order to make your drone a reality. For the second week, you will begin to test out your drone. You will also be able to accompany older participants and take part in their field testing. Depending on how your machine performs, you will even be able to propose your own animal research project and deploy your drone in the field!

The end of the camp will be dedicated to screenings. By using posters, photos and videos, you will present your project to others and explain to them the obstacles encountered and the solutions you found.

And finally, throughout the camp you will complete a course in piloting flying and ground drones. If you are a beginner, you will be able to learn how to pilot a drone via a simulator or on small machines. If you already know how to pilot a drone, you will advance quickly and pilot more sophisticated machines. You may even participate in small tests under the form of games, such as precision landing contests or agility courses.
