Come build and use your submarine to observe the animals of the seas and oceans.
Do you dream of whales, stingrays, dolphins or other seahorses? Do you dream of underwater exploration, of old sunken shipwrecks? Do-it-yourself and electronics do not scare you? then this stay is for you. We propose to build and use a real R.O.V!
But what is R.O.V?
It is a small remote controlled submarine equipped with a camera. It allows diving up to 75 meters while you can stay on the surface to control it. You will be able to discover the wonders of the sea and even record videos for your family. But not just that !!
We propose to transform you, during the time of your stay, into a scientist who works to unravel the mysteries of the seabed and protect them. Your mission will be to count seahorses and other extraordinary organisms. The challenge will be to reach a targeted seagrass (perhaps even one of the wrecks forgotten in Iroise ...) and to bring back images, as well as physicochemical data of the water.
In a second time, you will be able to discuss with the participants and the scientists of the other stays OSI that you will be able to help with your submarine. They will pose challenges, for you to rise to!
Throughout this adventure, many games and evening activities will be organized and you will be able to make new friends.
Initially designed for the oil industry, the R.O.V have developed and are now used for the exploration of the seabed or wrecks. You have been able to see the Titanic wreck or to bring back unpublished images of the creatures of theunderwater abyss. We invite you to discover these machines and to make you a young Naturalistic budding and thus to discover the underwater world from a unique point of view. Once its wonders at your fingertips, you will discover the beauty of nature but also its fragility. We will then show you how your R.O.V will help preserve the animals and the environment around them.
Then it will be up to you to play: from your experiences in the wild, we will establish together action plans for the use of ROV for stays and OSI expeditions like the Program of Research and Education “Cetis” in the Azores on the monitoring of cetaceans and plankton
Plankton makes up the first level of the marine food chain. Discover thier importance and let yourself be fascinated by their beauty by taking part in our nature courses on whales and dolphins.
and physico-chemical data of the oceans for stays “sea and wonder”. What better than to bring back unpublished images of large animals like dolphins, rays or even sharks?
Best of all, you will be able to pass your diploma which will allow you to apply for the role of pilot or cameraman for these famous expeditions and it will be up to you to directly observe the turtles, fish or other seahorses as technical manager on these next stays!
LOCATION / ACCOMMODATION
The Sea of Iroise is considered one of the richest in terms of biodiversity as evidenced by the many participatory observation programs proposed by the Iroise Marine Nature Park (PNMI) such as seagrass beds, seahorses, seals and dolphins, wounded or distressed birds, stingrays and sharks that are regularly encountered off its coasts. Accommodation will be provided in a hostel in Brest, with meals planned on site: the cuisine is homemade, at the hostel and favors short circuits.
YOUR DAY ON SITE
After joining a team, you will discover during the first week how to build a R.O.V. You will then have at your disposal all the equipment and tools you will need to build your submarine. With the help of drone professionals and older participants, you will need to assemble and test it until it works perfectly.
Then the second week, you will start using your machine. Always accompanied by the greatest, you will organize your tests on terrain. You will sometimes have to go on shipping while carrying your submarine. You will then have to dive and bring back a maximum of images that you will then analyze with aquatic animal specialists who organize the OSI trip in parallel.
The end of the stay will be devoted to retransmissions. In the form of posters, photos or videos you will present your project to others by explaining to them the problems and solutions found.
This will be a chance to share with the participants of the Sea and Wonders stay that will be there, as well as the entire scientific community they will gather.
Finally, throughout the stay, you will attend a complete training at pilotage of the R.O.V. You will be able to participate in small tests in the form of games like agility courses for example.
